Swift intro into the differences

Minecraft Pocket Edition 2018 Guide is a free app that contains information about the differences between Minecraft: Pocket Edition [Demo] for Android—with the full game now known as Minecraft—and the desktop version of the well-loved sandbox title. However, users should keep in mind that the Pocket Edition the app is referring to is both the demo and the full game itself.

Considered a game utility tool, Minecraft Pocket Edition 2018 Guide takes you through the main highlights of the mobile version of Minecraft, so you know what to expect when you download and play it yourself.

Contains basic information

Once you open Minecraft Pocket Edition 2018 Guide, you’ll be greeted with large text with a “Next” button that takes you to the app’s succeeding pages. The program begins with an introduction of what Minecraft: Pocket Edition [Demo] is, highlighting the fact that the game’s control systems are made for touchscreen devices. It also acknowledges the differences between the smartphone and desktop versions, as well as the drawbacks of playing the former.

The app briefly mentions E3 2017, or the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017, an event where Microsoft announced cross-play support for Android players, so they can play with other people from other platforms—be it on iOS, Nintendo Switch, VR devices, Windows 10, and Xbox One. By the end of the guide, you can provide your mobile number if you want to receive updates. It is worth noting, though, that this app contains outdated information. Other than that, there is little else.

The app’s limitations

Sadly, it doesn’t give you useful tips about playing Minecraft. Given the above-mentioned information, this app mainly focuses on the technical side of the game with little emphasis on the gameplay or tricks to help beginners navigate its mechanics. If you’re a complete newbie, you’ll have to find all the information on the internet yourself. The app is missing a back button, too, meaning you can’t read previous pages unless you go through the whole guide again.

Being a free tool, it understandably contains a lot of advertisements—which can take away the experience of seamless reading. Not to mention, the sheer number of ads that need to be closed every few pages or so will be irritating to any user of the software. Thankfully, it works offline since they only pop up whenever you’re connected to the internet. If you often leave your device’s WiFi enabled, it’s recommended that you disable it before using this program.

Not particularly useful

The Minecraft 2018 Guide does not provide much utility overall. Rather than giving practical information about playing Minecraft, it mainly tackles the game’s technicalities, namely the following: Cross-play support, differences between the Android and desktop versions, and disadvantages of playing the former version. Furthermore, the lack of a back button makes navigation tedious, forcing users to sift through everything to get to their desired page. The ads, while irritating, can be avoided by simply disabling the WiFi. To sum up, this program has little value for players.
